Packing, visa and seasons tips & information for your travel to the Kruger.
Let us prepare you for an exciting journey through the vast landscapes and breath taking wildlife encounters. Below are some essential packing tips to make your trip unforgettable!
Do pack lightweight for your travel to Kruger. Breathable clothing in neutral colours such as khaki, beige, or olive green. Please choose long-sleeved shirts and pants to protect against sunburn and insect bites. Also, a wide-brimmed hat is excellent to shield yourself from the African sun.
Layering:
Mornings and evenings on safari can be cool, so layering is key. Please bring a light sweater or jacket to keep warm during game drives. Additionally, do pack a waterproof jacket in case of unexpected rain showers.
Footwear:
Always pack comfortable closed-toe shoes for your travel to Kruger! Choose sturdy walking shoes or boots that provide support for long walks and game drives. Don’t forget to pack a pair of sandals or flip-flops for relaxation at your accommodation.Sun protection:
Africa’s sun can be intense. Therefore do pack sunscreen with high SPF ratings in order to protect your skin from harmful UV rays before your journey to Kruger. Sunglasses and a good-quality sun hat is also recommended.
Insect repellent:
Ward off mosquitoes and other insects prevalent in some regions. Carry an effective insect repellent containing DEET or other recommended ingredients.Camera Equipment

Visa, passport, currency, tipping & form of indemnity
We advise you to get an travel insurance before you are travelling. Also please check your passport is valid more than ½ year after you are back in your home country. VISA regulations should be checked before traveling so you know everything is in order. Check your travel documents are okay and fit with your booked stay.
Then it is time for Safari!
The currency used in South Africa is the South African Rand, abbreviated as ZAR , with the symbol “R”. In all the lodges it is possible to pay with Mastercard and Visa.
Credit cards are widely accepted, however it is a good idea to carry some cash for small purchases.Tipping is customary in South Africa in restaurants 10 – 15% of the bill is typical for good service.
Please tip your tour guides, drivers and Lodge staff before departing. The tips can be placed in the envelope found in your room and is based on you satisfaction.Before going out on a game drive, we kindly ask you to fill out our waiwer, assumption of risk and indemnity. Frequently Asked Questions
We recommend at least 3 nights so that you can relax and truly experience a true African Safari.
Most guests prefer 3 or more nights. There is a lot to do here and in the area! (See our Safari Activities).
If you want to stay for 4 nights or longer, you can enjoy all the activities, and still have time to relax, read, lie by the pool.
Children under 10 years old are welcome. In the interest of safety, participation of children in game activities is at the discretion of the guide.

How To Get Here?
From Hoedspruit
Approximate distance is 50 km from Hoedspruit. Continue on the R40 and take the Balule Nature Reserve, Lamai turn off on your right hand side. Once you reach the Lamai gate your guide will meet you there.
From Phalaborwa
Take the R71 from Phalaborwa and turn left onto the R40. Continue on the R40 and take the Balule Nature Reserve, Lamai turn off on your left hand side. Once you reach the Lamai gate your guide will meet you there.
From OR Tambo International Airport
Take the N12 or N4 highway to Witbank/ eMalahleni (from Johannesburg Airport, follow signs to Boksburg to find the N12). Follow the N4 highway past Middleburg (Toll Plaza), Belfast and Machadodorp (Toll Plaza).
Follow the Schoemanskloof option on the N4 and then
take the R36 to Lydenburg/Mashishing. Follow the R36 to Ohrigstad, go through the Strydom Tunnel and take the R527 to Hoedspruit.
Turn left onto the R40. Follow the R40 towards Phalaborwa. Continue on the R40 and take the Balule Nature Reserve, Lamai turn off on your right hand side. Once you reach the Lamai gate your guide will meet you there.
